Mr. Shakespeare who lived until age 52 was born on April 23, 1564 (https://shorturl.at/agpWX). This post is a brief musical tribute to his incredible legacy. The song below entitled “Aimer” [To Love] is subtitled in English. It is taken from the French musical, “Roméo et Juliette: de la Haine à l’Amour“, which is based on Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet” (music and lyrics by Mr. Gérard Presgurvic). Long live music… and love!
Aye, here’s to the bard. Among his love sonnets, below is a memorable one I read many times as an undergrad:
Sonnet 73: That time of year thou mayst in me behold
BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see’st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire,
Consum’d with that which it was nourish’d by.
This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
HOW BEAUTIFUL! Bambi thanks you Fred for sharing!
Of course, there was also Shakespeare’s “Dark Lady of the Sonnets” but Shakespeare never said who she was.
