Even whilst saying the latter, our Minister sounds passionless. Is she really convinced deep inside?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-global-news\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"IjcrHg3lgj\"><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/7716591\/new-brunswick-appoint-commissioner-systemic-racism\/\">&#8216;More of the same paternalism&#8217;: First Nations groups call N.B. systemic racism commissioner announcement &#8216;disappointing&#8217;<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;&#8216;More of the same paternalism&#8217;: First Nations groups call N.B. systemic racism commissioner announcement &#8216;disappointing&#8217;&#8221; &#8212; Global News\" src=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/7716591\/new-brunswick-appoint-commissioner-systemic-racism\/embed\/#?secret=IjcrHg3lgj\" data-secret=\"IjcrHg3lgj\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>She is referring to immigrants, to citizens said to be\n\u201cpeople of colour\u201d (like Bambi ?)\nor \u201cblack\u201d or Indigeneous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, even if you thought that this is a good step to\naddress the so-called \u201csystemic\u201d racism, check this CBC article first (without an\nopen section for comments of course). It informs us that \u201c<em>Indigenous leaders\nhave denounced the provincial government&#8217;s plan to address systemic racism in\nNew Brunswick, saying they weren&#8217;t consulted or even advised<\/em>\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/new-brunswick\/commissioner-systemic-racism-new-brunswick-arlene-dunn-1.5961763\">https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/new-brunswick\/commissioner-systemic-racism-new-brunswick-arlene-dunn-1.5961763<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is and will anyone from our government listen to these\nChiefs? And why were they not consulted prior to this decision? What is our\ngovernment doing? Who is funding this? Our tax money? Or another source? Is our\ngovernment being forced to do this? And if so, by whom? Or are they true believers\nof the merit and cost-effectiveness of this one-year highly expensive process?\nAnd what is next in a few months, in a year, or in the next few years?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we look at the mask of Tobique First Nation Chief\nRoss Perley (<em>CBC<\/em> picture), it reads \u201c<em>Healing our community<\/em>\u201d. Is\nthere anything more beautiful in the world than the word \u201chealing<em>\u201d<\/em> in\nlife? How does this governmental decision, done without consultation with\nIndigenous people, serve the healing of our NB Indigenous communities?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And what about all the other communities? The\nFrench-speaking? The English-speaking? The older, newer, and future immigrants?\nDon\u2019t they have a say in this? Those who may have voted for this majority\ngovernment or not?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To come back to the GNB website cited above, it\ninforms us that: \u201c<em>The commissioner will focus on the following\nobjectives: <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><em>\u201cConducting a public consultation on the nature and impact of systemic racism on racialized, immigrant and Indigenous populations in New Brunswick.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Thorough documentation of experiences in an effort to gather qualitative and quantitative data \u2013 performed through a number of means including, but not limited to, a review of previous recommendations, establishing a dedicated website,      holding virtual meetings, receiving presentations and written submissions by email, mail or on the website, in-person meetings with the commissioner by invitation and on request, virtual consultation sessions with foreign nationals, employers and other groups as necessary\u201d.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If our government knows that \u201c<em>systemic racism<\/em>\u201d is \u201c<em>ingrained<\/em>\u201d in all its Departments and institutions\u201d, why will it waste our public funds [and we are almost broke] to collect all these \u201c<em>qualitative and quantitative data<\/em>\u201d. Plus, it is excluding Indigenous citizens from this process?
