And if so, why are we doing so?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the noble intentions, is there a potential slippery\nslope? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or is Bambi wrong about her concerns about freedom of\nexpression? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can we preserve tolerance in our society whilst also\nprotecting citizens from evil? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who gets to decide what is hateful in life? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is a different opinion hate?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is a legitimate opposition related to this or that\nidea hate?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And what about all the shades of different opinions, including\na so-called hate speech?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, Bambi is not talking about threats of\nviolence, written or verbal, or violent acts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is rather talking about a legitimate different opinion\non this or that matter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With these questions in mind, today Bambi found\nherself taking a few moments to watch a news documentary about Beirut. She saw a\ndemonstrator who criticized a heavily armed group, in addition to his country\u2019s\nwidespread political corruption. How ironic that, despite excesses, in this tiny,\nbankrupt, and highly volatile Middle Eastern state, citizens can still criticize\npowerful groups or their government. They can be vocal on the streets, in the\nmedia, and online. Isn\u2019t it therapeutic to (still) be able to call a spade a spade\nin tiny, bankrupt, starving, volatile\u2026 yet somehow still democratic Lebanon?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To conclude this post by re-focusing on Canada, why\ndoes our government seem to want to over-sanitize our internet? Is its underlying\nmotivation to protect us from\u2026 ourselves?
