Today, this happened at York University (Toronto).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday and decades before yesterday, it used to\nhappen at Concordia University (Montreal) or elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bambi is writing this post, without caring about people\u2019s opinions (each has one and she has hers). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is just sick and tired of seeing conflicts from\nabroad disturbing our beautiful campuses or cities. This regardless of whom is (more)\nwrong or right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before reading Global news and watching the video, she\nhas considered writing an initial post about Mr. Trudeau\u2019s change of vote on\nthe UN. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last December, when she travelled to Beirut, all the Middle East Airline (MEA) planes played a famous song by Feiruz, a Lebanese singer, for Jerusalem following landing in all capitals they stopped in (this came as a reaction to Trump\u2019s unilateral decision to move the American embassy there). The song\u2019s piece was about a prayer for peace in this so-called holy city. It was a nice gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bambi is and has always been for peace and justice,\nthat is for a two-state-solution to this endless conflict in the Middle East. In\nall honesty, despite faith in her heart, she does not care much about the spiritual\/religious\npart of the issue related to Jerusalem. She cares more about human and citizen\nrights, let\u2019s say. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is why, she applauded Trudeau\u2019s change of vote 2-3\ndays ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some say Canada did this just to win a seat on the UN.\nMaybe? Some say he could not do it before because of the NAFTA negotiations.\nMaybe? Some say it is odd to be appearing to side with the dictators of the world\non this issue. Maybe? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless, it is a position that is more congruent\nwith a two-state-solution (if at all realistically possible, given the level of\ndeep hurt or hatred). It is also a position that appears to be more \u201cCanadian\u201d,\nso to speak. This, even if Bambi also respects earlier decisions. In the end,\nthe problem is too deep. She even doubts it will be solved before the death of\nher grandchildren (OK, she is saying this because she does not have kids).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More seriously, Bambi will say: Thank you Mr. Trudeau,\neven if she did not vote for you a second time.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, the Palestinians suffer under occupation and further\ncontinuous colonization. Yes, it breaks Bambi\u2019s heart. However, her heart also\nbreaks to read about Israeli kids (or any kids!) worried about safety, for real\n(violence of some sort) or not (perceived fear). So, everyone deserves a\nsolution to this problem. Mind you, so does Lebanon that has directly suffered\nfrom the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (triangulated into civil war). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the people fighting in the Middle East and to the\noverzealous students at York University, she will say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enough violence. Enough extremism (ideological or\nreligious or whatever else). Enough stupidity, please\u2026 and not in our peaceful Canada.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s listen to each other, even if we do not like\nwhat the other will say. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is only with continuous, and of course respectful, open\nchannels of communication that trust can be re-built on day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without trust, there can be no hope for peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peace starts in our hearts, between our ears (there is\nbrain there, let\u2019s use it!), in our relationships, in our cities or countries, established\nones or countries yet to be built. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
