Is this reconciliation or a modern form of obscurantism?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/NoneSense.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12659\" width=\"102\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/NoneSense.jpg 225w, https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/NoneSense-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 102px) 85vw, 102px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> In Ontario, Canada, over 5000 books have been burned in the name of reconciliation, including <em>Tintin en Am\u00e9rique<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/ici.radio-canada.ca\/nouvelle\/1817537\/livres-autochtones-bibliotheques-ecoles-tintin-asterix-ontario-canada\">https:\/\/ici.radio-canada.ca\/nouvelle\/1817537\/livres-autochtones-bibliotheques-ecoles-tintin-asterix-ontario-canada<\/a>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This has been done in so-called &#8220;<em>flame purification<\/em>s&#8221; ceremonies meant &#8220;<em>for educational purposes<\/em>&#8221; in which ashes were used &#8220;<em>as fertilizer<\/em>&#8221; to plant a tree and thus &#8220;<em>to turn from negative to positive<\/em>&#8220;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The schools even made a video for students to explain this process: &#8220;<em>We bury the ashes of racism, discrimination and stereotypes in the hope that we will grow up in an inclusive country where all can live in prosperity and security<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How sad, absurd, and ridiculous even to burn books in life,  regardless of the book or the noble motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why are we doing this? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can we achieve reconciliation in a more constructive and wiser way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other terms, and practically, how will this intellectual form of &#8220;inquisition&#8221; bring justice to Canada&#8217;s Indigenous communities? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How will it bring healing to those mourning their loved ones? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And what about the MUCH needed clean water in some First Nations reserves ( tragic reality we usually see in the Third World)? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will burning books achieve all the above? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, will we one day in 25, 45 or 125 years from now regret such extreme gestures?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Ontario, Canada, over 5000 books have been burned in the name of reconciliation, including Tintin en Am\u00e9rique (https:\/\/ici.radio-canada.ca\/nouvelle\/1817537\/livres-autochtones-bibliotheques-ecoles-tintin-asterix-ontario-canada).
