{"id":11071,"date":"2021-06-03T14:49:37","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T17:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/?p=11071"},"modified":"2021-06-03T14:54:49","modified_gmt":"2021-06-03T17:54:49","slug":"with-all-due-respect-to-mr-blanchet-preventing-state-sanctioned-censorship-is-more-important-than-french-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/index.php\/2021\/06\/03\/with-all-due-respect-to-mr-blanchet-preventing-state-sanctioned-censorship-is-more-important-than-french-content\/","title":{"rendered":"With all due respect to Mr. Blanchet, preventing state-sanctioned censorship is more important than French content"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Why.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11073\" width=\"160\" height=\"177\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Mmm, why did the <em>Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois,<\/em> along with the <em>Liberal Party of Canada<\/em> and the <em>NDP<\/em>, vote down &#8220;<em>Bill-C10 amendment that would exempt social media content from regulation&#8221;<\/em>, as per the <em>National Post<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/politics\/bill-c-10-amendment-that-would-exempt-social-media-content-from-regulation-voted-down\">https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/politics\/bill-c-10-amendment-that-would-exempt-social-media-content-from-regulation-voted-down<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why does Mr. Blanchet&#8217;s <em>Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois<\/em> (BQ) consider that Canadian or French content would matter more than a risk of censorship?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With regard to Bill 96 on the protection of the French language, Ms. Jody Wilson-Raybould saw partisanship of our federal political parties with the BQ asking to amend the Canadian constitution (i.e., Qu\u00e9bec is a nation and French is its language). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does she or do you see any partisanship of both the <em>BQ<\/em> and NDP with the <em>Liberals<\/em> with regard to Bill C-10? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite Mr. Blanchet&#8217;s articulate press conference about this proposed bill (and compassionate answers to other questions from the journalists), and as a non-expert citizen, Bambi still sees the risk of censorship on social media and questions the need for this bill. She is saying so, even if Mr. Blanchet may be right in pointing to the competitive attitude of both the <em>Liberals<\/em> and the <em>Conservative<\/em>s toward each other (with regard to this bill), to use his own words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Le chef bloquiste aborde le proj. de loi sur la radiodiffusion &amp; la d\u00e9couverte des restes d&#039;enfants\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xk-6YujZW9A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin with, why don&#8217;t our lawmakers listen to the expertise of the University of Ottawa law professor, Dr. Michael Geist (<a href=\"https:\/\/commonlaw.uottawa.ca\/en\/people\/geist-michael\">https:\/\/commonlaw.uottawa.ca\/en\/people\/geist-michael<\/a>)? As reported by the <em>National Post<\/em> article cited above, Geist once wrote one his own platform: \u201c<em>The CRTC\u2019s lack of competence and dismissal of competitive concerns  combined with the government\u2019s willingness to vest the future of  Internet regulation in its hands creates perhaps the greatest threat  arising from Bill C-10<\/em>\u201d.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least, why would any government of any democratic country in the world want to regulate (OR control) social media? And why would citizens accept this or do they really do so, if they were not consulted about it (of course, assuming consultations are genuine, etc.), Bambi cannot help not to wonder?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without any clear answer, she remains concerned about this proposed Bill C-10 or at least its possible use in the future.
