It dates from 1963 and it informs us that Lebanon was one of the four most prosperous countries of the world back then, after Switzerland, West Germany, and the United States: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"296\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Lebanon-4th-prosperous-nation-1963.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11036\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Lebanon-4th-prosperous-nation-1963.jpg 296w, https:\/\/bambisafkar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Lebanon-4th-prosperous-nation-1963-139x300.jpg 139w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 85vw, 296px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Look at the contrast with today&#8217;s situation (<em>Wion<\/em> short news documentary)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This economic fiasco is likely the outcome of the mindset\/actions of endemic corruption in public service with impunity, along with an absence of a clever long-term vision of prosperity for the country (of course, there has also been a destructive 15-year civil war, in addition to regional challenges&#8230; and now a pandemic).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Lebanon\u2019s economic crisis among world&#039;s worst since 1850s | GDP | Latest World English News | WION\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NtltS2NU9aE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bambi has always wondered which is worse in life: financial OR moral corruption? Although she is convinced that the latter is worse, the tragedy of Lebanon is that the latter is also likely responsible for the inaction of its political so-called leaders now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bambi is saying the above while recognizing the complex competing interests of foreign forces in this tiny, bankrupt yet always beautiful and dignified country.
