Bambi was 10 years old in 1982 (you can guess her age\nnow ?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1982 was the year where Beirut was under the Israeli\noccupation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1982 came just 4 years after her aunt died under the Syrian\ninvasion of Beirut. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1982 was also the year when Bambi\u2019s grandfather (born\nin 1900) died, heartbroken from the death of his daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same grandfather married his beloved wife (Bambi\u2019s grandmother whom she never had the chance to meet in life). She came from nearby Syria originally. Do you see the irony and absurdity of war?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Syria occupied Lebanon for 29 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Israel occupied Lebanon for 22 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, there was also initially the Palestine Liberation Organization<\/em>, PLO (or OLP in French).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were many Lebanese fractions, all with blood on\ntheir hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were massacres and there was hate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was also\u2026 and there is still the Hezbollah\u2019s weapons, in addition to Hamas\u2019 not too far away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also a very powerful Israel on the military front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is an Iran that wants to become a nuclear (surely\nnot peaceful) power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also regional forces using this historical\nconflict for their own interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, there are also leaders of other countries\nwho just do not know what to do to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some chose one approach. Others prefer another one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet others prefer to rise above the conflict, supporting\nboth sides and demanding peace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in the Middle East, we hear once again the same old\nsong, like after the Israel-Lebanon (or rather Hezbollah) July 2006 war. Both\nsides \u201cclaim\u201d victory, one \u201cdivine\u201d, the other \u201cmilitary\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All this whilst innocent people (including many\nchildren) have been killed and destruction is all over. How can this be a victory?\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus, the Palestinian people remain vulnerable and without\nan official country to be proud of. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the Israeli people still live worried about their\nsafety or even fear for their existence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in Canada (at least in Montreal), the USA, and\nEurope, we recently saw pictures of passionate, and at times sadly violent, demonstrators\nwho seem to have forgotten why their parents or grandparents left the Middle\nEast. Didn\u2019t they come to find peace in the welcoming host countries? So why are\nwe bringing the problems of the Middle East here instead of fixing them there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
